We are thrilled to invite you to the first joint Harvard Club of France and HKS Women Network event: a conversation on Feminist Foreign Policy with France’s Ambassador-at-large and Secretary-General for the Generation Equality Forum (and HKS alumna) Delphine O at Linklaters in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.

« Feminist foreign policy » is a relatively new and still undefined concept. Adopted for the first time in 2014 by Sweden, it reveals how gender equality has recently evolved from a peripheral « soft » to a central « hard » issue of international relations over the past years, as governments have come to integrate gender as an important component of their foreign policy. In 2021, the Generation Equality Forum which was hosted by France, co-chaired with Mexico and under the aegis of UN Women, was the largest international conference for gender equality since 1995. It enabled to raise $40 billion in commitments for gender equality. Gender Equality was one of President Macron’s priorities during his first mandate.

Delphine O, who recently wrote a book entitled “La diplomatie féministe est un sport de combat” (Feminist diplomacy is a combat sport), which takes stock of the struggle for gender equality since the beginning of the 20th century, will share with us in an exclusive setting her experience leading French Feminist Foreign Policy at a time when more and more countries are trying to tackle gender equalities through their policies.
